Group chats and settings by purpose

Make a group for translation and another for summaries to keep those conversations easy to find. Each group can have its own model and instructions, so a new Chat there starts with settings for that purpose. You can still change the model or instructions for one Chat. Groups do not nest; a Chat belongs to one group or to the top level.

Open Naidan to create a Chat Group from the sidebar. If first-time setup appears, close it with ×, then expand the sidebar.

1. Create a group for a purpose

Expand the sidebar and select Create Chat Group, the folder-plus button beside Search. Enter a name such as Translation and press Enter or the check button. The group appears in the sidebar.

The sidebar button opens a name field, then creates the group.

If you still need a model for the next step, see browser model setup or the local engine connection guide.

2. Choose a model for this group

Select the group name in the sidebar to open its settings page. Under Model ID Override, select a model available at the current endpoint. The selection becomes the group’s model for Chats that have no model of their own. Leave the field unset to use the global default model instead.

Open the group settings from its sidebar name and choose a model. Page copy stays at the top level until you move it in step 4.

3. Give the group its instructions

Scroll down on the same page to Group System Prompt. For a translation group, select Replace and enter an instruction such as “Translate the user’s text into English while preserving its meaning and tone.” Use Append when you want to keep the global instructions and add the group’s instruction. Global uses the global instructions as they are; No Prompt removes them at the group level. A Chat can still set its own instructions.

Replace the global prompt with a translation instruction for this group. The other modes let you inherit or add to the global instructions.

4. Move an existing Chat into the group

Open that Chat and select Move to Group, the folder-arrow button in its header. Choose the group name. The Chat appears beneath the group in the sidebar and uses the group’s model and instructions unless it has its own settings. Top Level moves it out again.

The header menu moves the selected Chat to Translation.

5. Start the next Chat inside the group

Expand the group in the sidebar and choose Add Chat beneath its name. This creates a new Chat in that group. The main New Chat button at the top of the sidebar creates a top-level Chat.

Add Chat under the group creates another conversation there.

6. Keep the sidebar easy to scan

Use the arrow beside the group name to collapse or expand its Chats. The pencil on the group row renames it. Deleting a group permanently deletes every Chat inside it, so check the confirmation carefully.

The pencil renames the group, then the arrow hides its Chat rows without deleting them.
